Freshmen aren't really freshmen at this point of the season, and for the Lady Badgers it was a freshman that pushed them to the second round. As the Badgers defeat UW-Milwaukee 2-1 to move on to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
The Badgers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half, but it was the second half that the game got interesting. Following a dominating performance, and a goal by Laurie Nosbusch the Badgers held a lead by the slimmest of margins at halftime. But in the second half the Panthers came out to play.
Facing elimination the Lady Panthers recorded their lone goal of the postseason in the second half. In the 68th minute Sarah Hagen found the back of then net off of a Sara Stern assist. That tied the game at 1-1, but the tie would be broken quickly.
Just 29 seconds later the Badgers would strike again. This time it was freshman Kodee Williams that would find the back of the net. Williams' third goal of the season would be the second of the game, and all the Badgers would need to edge the Panthers.
On the heals of a big first round victory over UW-Milwaukee the Badgers can not rest on the laurels. With a re-match against third seeded Marquette on Sunday to extend the postseason for the Lady Badgers. The last time these two teams met the final was a 1-1 tie, but this time the game will matter.
