The first time the Lady Badgers and Golden Eagles met this season the final was a tie. After 90 minutes against Marquette in the NCAA tournament the two squads were again tied. Until they ran into the technicality of the NCAA tournament...someone must win.
Marquette struck first with a goal by Kerry McBride early in the first half. A goal that would soon be answered by Wisconsin mid-fielder Monica Lam-Feist in the second half.
Lam-Feist's first goal came in the 65th minute, but then found the back of the net again just a minute later. This time off of an assist by sophomore defenseman Lindsey Johnson Lam Feist gave the Badgers a 2-1 lead. A lead that wouldn't last.
Just thirty seconds later Marquette's Lisa Philbin would score off of a Katie Hishmeh assist to tie the game up at 2-2. A tie that would last all the way to a shootout.
The Badgers struck first with a make by junior Laurie Nosbusch. Marquette was unable to answer on their first attempt giving the Badgers a 1-0 lead in the shootout. Another lead that would not hold.
Wisconsin would match the Golden Eagles with three straight makes by Alev Kelter, Meghan Flannery, and Lam-Feist. Until Darcy Riley was unable to find the back of the net. Marquette's senior forward Julie Victor found the back of the net to bring the shootout to a tie a 4-4.
The fifth and final kick would prove to be the difference in the game. Wisconsin freshman Deja Walker was unable to connect, and Marquette's Rachael Sloan knocked her's in.
After 180 minutes, two overtimes, and four penalty kicks it came down to just two people. Unfortunately for the Lady Badgers they found the short end. Ending the Lady Badgers season, and extending Marquette's for at least one more game.
